Red Dog AOTM, how do you feel about that? Surprised, shocked and honoured! Lucky you can’t win AOTM twice. I thought for sure Shane was a shoe in after finishing ARCH 2 ARC.
When did you join, and what attracted you to the club? I joined 2 years ago, when I was training for the Noosa triathlon. Zach said I should come to the track and “just be ready for Trent’s banter.” And I have loved it ever since.
How much training do you do at the moment? Now that the marathon is over, I wouldn’t mind doing 4 sessions a week, but mix it up. I am even thinking of making a comeback to the slow lane in the pool.
What’s your favourite session and why? Track Tuesday! Always a laugh when the Hyrox bros turn up early in the year and Trent yells at them to get in the outside lane. Sean and I also used to run track together when we were in school which still makes me excited 15 years later.
Who’s your ideal training partner and why? Swim, Bike, Run Run: Metronome Mike Kearney. Always keeping me, Sean and Amanda running the right speeds around the track. Bike: The guys from work. Especially when Zach is pulling us along, and I can sit at the back with Nick. Swim: Mother nature when it gets called off! Not much of a swimmer.
Favourite motivational quote? Even the worst days have an ending, and the best days have a beginning.
The one bit of advice I’d give to a newbie is? Turn up and enjoy yourself! Trent has created an environment that allows any level of athlete to reach their goals and enjoy themselves.
What’s your next event? Nothing planned at this stage. Probably a half-marathon or another marathon if Tim Langford gets his way. A gravel bike race has always tempted me.
What do you do outside of training? Love going for a walk with Ash, my wife, and Remy the dog, then parking up at a coffee shop.
What’s your one guilty pleasure? Sitting on the couch watching sport all weekend!
