  1. Red Dog AOTM, how do you feel about that?
Unexpectedly stoked, actually. Probably something to unpack in therapy… but seriously, it’s pretty cool after a run of decent results. And the week before the biggest race of the year — perfect mojo boost. Cheers, Trent.
  2. When did you join, and what attracted you to the club?
2022 (I think). I already knew a few members who spoke highly of the club vibes. There was also the promise of seeing Trent in budgies… three years later, still nothing. Still hoping.
  3. How much training do you do at the moment?
Usually 10–12 hours a week. Where I’m at in life, that seems to be the sweet spot for balancing training, sleep, work, and non-lycra time.
  4. What’s your favourite session and why?
Got to be the Monday or Friday swims. They always ruin my swimming self-worth, but I always leave wanting to be better, and dropped less.
  5. Who’s your ideal training partner and why? Swim, Bike, Run
In the club, it would have been Smalley – but as he’s moved his kennel to Victoria, applications are open. Someone who doesn’t mind being half-wheeled and will run slowly.
  6. Favourite motivational quote?
‘Always choose a lazy person to do a hard job, because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it.’ – Bill Gates. Usually comes to mind as I’m googling “fastest TT wheels you can buy”
  7. The one bit of advice I’d give to a newbie is?
Don’t worry about the numbers and try not to compare too much. Everyone started somewhere and focus on the fun. Be consistent and you’ll surprise yourself.
  8. What’s your next event?
Olympic distance AG worlds next week.
  9. What do you do outside of training?
I’m a research scientist at the CSIRO, so that takes up most of it. Also a long-suffering English Cricket fan.
  10. What’s your one guilty pleasure?
Just one? Doom-scrolling the comment sections on controversial videos. Nothing makes you feel better about your own life choices than watching strangers go to war over pineapple on pizza.
