Renee Bidwell

  1. Red Dog AOTM, how do you feel about that?
Given it’s the second sport related thing I’ve ever won in my 41 years (the Noosa category win being the first), I’m feeling pretty good!
  2. When did you join, and what attracted you to the club?
I joined in 2018 after my first triathlon. I knew a few faces and was grateful to be shown the ropes while I learned what the ‘triathlon money sink hole’ was.
  3. How much training do you do at the moment?
That depends on what event is in the calendar, how far away it is, and how much time I can negotiate away from home. Outside of a program, it’s usually two strength sessions in the gym, a run (or two), and a bike (or two).
  4. What’s your favourite session and why?
Track Tuesday! I’m not built to run, but I love the challenge that comes with following people around and picking them off one by one.
  5. Who’s your ideal training partner and why? Swim, Bike, Run
Adam Allison – the banter, the comradery, and the encouragement. And any time I get to train alongside my Dad and my brother is special. I always learn something new from their technical know-how, and their mental strength and resilience.
  6. Favourite motivational quote?
    Can I have three?
    – Keep your eyes up (thank you Alana… your wise words one Sunday on the UQ gravel track have never left me)
    – Know your ‘whys’ and when the going gets tough, gather up all your whys, lean into the pain, and push harder; and
    – Get comfortable with being uncomfortable… this applies to many things in life.
  7. The one bit of advice I’d give to a newbie is?
Don’t be intimidated. The RDTT community are kinder than you think and have each other’s backs – but won’t let you slack off. You’ll be better for being part of the crew.
  8. What’s your next event?
Tour de Brisbane in April, back to Noosa for the greatest weekend of the year in November, and perhaps a half marathon in between.
  9. What do you do outside of training?
I think this question implies I have other spare time outside of training. I’m either in the office herding cats navigating lawyers, watching my 12 year old on the side of a rugby field/volleyball court/cricket pitch/pool or negotiating with my 2 year old on how many more episodes of Bluey she can watch.
  10. What’s your one guilty pleasure?
A Whittakers peanut slab (or a marshmallow Santa) and a Redbull while I do the grocery shopping.
